1531년 12월 9일 멕시코의 테페야크 언덕에서 성모마리아께서 실제로 발현하신

과달루페의 성모님 이야기를 알고 계시나요?

 

Do you know the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where the Virgin Mary actually 

appeared on the hill of Tepeyac, Mexico, on December 9, 1531?

 

1531년 12월 9일 가톨릭으로 개종한지 얼마 되지 않은 성 후안 디에고 콰우틀라토아친은 

인근 성당에서 열리는 미사에 참례하기 위해 테페야크 산을 넘어갈 때 빛나는 구름 속에서 

파란색 망토를 입은 갈색 피부의 여인이 나타납니다.

 

On December 9, 1531, Saint Juan Diego Cuautlatoatzin, who had recently converted 

to Catholicism, was crossing Mount Tepeyac to attend Mass at a nearby church 

when a brown-skinned woman in a blue cloak appeared from a luminous cloud.

 

 

그 여인이 스스로 말하기를

 

the woman said to herself

 

"나는 하늘과 땅을 만드신 하느님의 어머니 성모 마리아이다. 나는 너를 사랑하고 믿으며, 내 도움을 요청하는 지상의 모든 백성의 자비로운 어머니이다. 나는 그들의 비탄의 소리를 듣고 있으며 그들의 모든 고통과 슬픔을 위로하고 있다. 나는 너희가 나의 사랑과 연민, 구원 그리고 보호를 증거로 제시하는 표시로 내가 발현한 이곳에 성당을 세우길 바라고 있다. 그러니 너는 멕시코 주교관에 가서 이곳에 나를 위한 성당을 세우는 것이 내 소망임을 전하도록 하여라."

 

"I am the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of God who made the heavens and the earth.

 

I am the merciful Mother of all the peoples of the earth who love and trust you and 

ask for my help.

 

I hear their lamentations and comfort all their pains and sorrows.

 

I want you to build a cathedral on the site of my apparition as a token of my love, 

compassion, salvation and protection.

 

So you go to the Mexican bishop's house and tell them that it is my desire to build 

a church for me here."

성 후안 디에고 콰우틀라토아친은 이 말을 듣고 나서 후안 데 수마라가 주교에게 전했으나 

전혀 믿으려 하지 않았습니다.

 

Saint Juan Diego Cuautlatoatzin heard these words and told to

Bishop Juan de Sumara, but he refused to believe at all.

 

오히려 주교는 그 말이 진짜임을 증명할 수 있는 기적의 증표를 보여달라고 요구합니다.

 

Rather, the bishop asks for a miraculous proof to prove the statement is true.

 

주교관을 나와서  처음 목격한 곳에서 성모 마리아와 다시 만난

성 후안 디에고 콰우틀라토아친은 "수마라가 주교가 나의 말을 믿지 않는다"며 하소연을 합니다.

 

Saint Juan Diego Cuautlatoatzin, who met the Virgin Mary again at the place 

where he first witnessed it after leaving the miter, complains, 

"Bishop Sumaraga does not believe me."

 

과연 성 후안 디에고 콰우틀라토아친은 기적의 증표를 가져가서 자신의 말을 증명할 수 있을까요?
