[천주교 세례명] 맹인의 눈을 치료해준 성녀 페가(Saint Pega)

성녀 페가(Saint Pega)는 성 구틀락(Saint Guthlac)의 동생으로 오빠의 은둔소 곁에서 은수생활을 하였다.

Saint Pega was the younger sister of Saint Guthlac and lived as a hermit next to her brother's hermitage. 

 

그녀의 오빠는 714년에 자신의 죽음이 가까워졌음을 깨달았을 때 그녀를 찾았고 그녀는 오빠의 장례를 치렀다.

When her brother realized his death was near in 714, he sought her out, and she held his funeral. 

 

1년 후 그녀는 오빠의 시신이 부패하지 않은 것을 확인했을 때 그의 유해를 새로운 무덤으로 옮기었다.

A year later, when she found that her brother's body had not decomposed, she moved his remains to a new grave. 

 

이때 그녀는 위스벡(Wisbech)에서 온 어느 맹인을 치료하기 위해 웰랜드(Welland) 강에서 흘러나오는 물로 치유했다고 한다. 

At this time, she is said to have cured a blind man from Wisbech with water from the Welland River. 

 

그 후 그녀는 로마(Roma) 순례를 하던 중에 선종하였다. 그녀의 유해는 그녀를 기념하여 로마에 세워진 성당에 안장되어 있고, 기적이 끊임없이 일어났다고 한다.

Afterwards, she died while on a pilgrimage to Rome. Her remains are buried in a cathedral built in her honor in Rome, and miracles are said to have occurred continuously.
