브라반트의 성녀 구둘라(Saint Gudula of Brabant)는 벨기에의 비트겔(Witger) 백작과 그의 아내인 모뵈주(Maubeuge)의 성녀 아멜베르가(Saint Amelberga)의 딸로 태어났다.

Saint Gudula of Brabant was born as the daughter of Count Witger of Belgium and his wife, Saint Amelberga of Maubeuge. 

 

그녀는 니벨레스(Nivelles)의 성녀 제르트루다(Saint Gertrude)로부터 종교적인 생활을 배우며 성장하였다.

She grew up learning religious life from Saint Gertrude of Nivelles.

 

성녀 제르트루다(Saint Gertrude)가 사망한 후 그녀는 부모의 집으로 돌아와 함께 지내면서 오로지 이웃을 위한 자선활동과 신심생활에만 전념하였다.

After Saint Gertrude died, she returned to her parents' home and stayed with them, focusing solely on charity work for her neighbors and a life of devotion. 

 

그녀의 집과 모르셀(Moorsel) 성당이 약 3km 정도 떨어져 있었지만 그녀는 매일 아침 성당에 가서 기도하였다.

Although her house was about 3km away from the Moorsel Cathedral, she went to the cathedral every morning and prayed. 

 

그녀는 사망한 후 고향 마을에 있는 성당 정문 앞에 묻혔다. 그러나 1579년 칼빈주의자들에 의해 그녀의 묘는 파괴되었고 유해 또한 흩어지고 말았다.

After her death, she was buried in front of the main gate of the cathedral in her hometown. However, her tomb was destroyed by Calvinists in 1579 and her remains were scattered.
