랭스의 성녀 마크라(Saint Macra of Rheims)는 프랑스 랭스 근처에서 태어났다.

Saint Macra of Rheims was born near Reims, France.

 

그녀는 로마 총독 릭티오바루스(Rictiovarus)에 의해 박해를 받았다. 그는 그녀에게 이교도 신들을 숭배한다면 부와 명예를 줄 것을 약속했다. 그러나 만약 거절한다면 그녀에게 고통을 주겠다고 위협했다.

She was persecuted by the Roman governor Rictiovarus. He promised her wealth and honor if she worshiped the pagan gods. But he threatened her with pain if she refused.

 

그녀는 그의 요구를 거절하며 자신의 신앙고백을 당당히 했다. 고문을 당하고 있는 그녀에게 총독은 그녀의 이름이 무엇이냐고 물었다.

She refused his request and confidently confessed her faith. As she was being tortured, the governor asked her what her name was.

 

그녀는 다음과 같이 대답하였다. "나는 그리스도인이며 거짓 형상이 아닌 하느님을 흠숭한다."

She answered: “I am a Christian and I worship God and not false images.”

 

릭티오바루스(Rictiovarus)가 다시 그녀에게 이교도 신들에게 숭배할 것을 명했으나 그녀는 다음과 같이 말하며 선종했다.

Rictiovarus again ordered her to worship pagan gods, but she died saying:

 

"나는 비록 보잘 것 없지만 그럼에도 불구하고 산 자들이 사는 땅에서 하느님의 선한 일들을 보게 될것이라고 믿습니다."

“I believe that, though insignificant, we will nevertheless see God’s good works in the land of the living.” 

 

9세기에 그녀의 시신이 발견되었고 그녀에게 간구하였던 맹인, 귀머거리, 절름발이들이 치유되는 기적이 일어났다.

Her body was discovered in the 9th century, and a miracle occurred: the blind, deaf, and lame people who prayed to her were healed.
