성녀 라파엘라 마리아 포라스(Saint Raphaela-Mary Porras)는 에스파냐에서 시장의 딸로 태어났으나 불행하게도 4살 때에 부친이 사망하였다.

Saint Raphaela-Mary Porras was born in Spain as the daughter of a mayor, but unfortunately her father died when she was four years old. 

 

어린 시절부터 예수 그리스도에 대한 그녀의 헌신은 깊었다. 이후 그녀의 어머니의 죽음은 그녀가 더욱더 하느님께 자신을 봉헌하는 계기가 되었다.

From childhood her devotion to Jesus Christ was deep. Afterwards, her mother's death became an opportunity for her to devote herself even more to God.

 

그녀와 그녀의 자매인 돌로레스(Dolores)는 마리아 레파라트리스 수녀회(the Sisters of Marie Reparatrice)에 입회했다. 

She and her sister Dolores entered the Sisters of Marie Reparatrice.

 

하지만 그곳의 주교가 교구를 떠나도록 강요함으로써 그녀와 15명의 다른 자매들은 새로운 공동체를 만들었다.

But when the bishop there forced her to leave the diocese, she and 15 other sisters created a new community. 

 

그래서 그들은 성심 시녀회(the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart)를 설립하고 어린이 교육과 피정지도를 하였다.

So they established the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart and provided education for children and guided retreats. 

 

1877년 그녀는 총장이 되었으며 수녀회는 에스파냐에서 급속히 성장하였다. 1893년 그녀는 총장직을 사임했다.

In 1877, she became General, and the Congregation grew rapidly in Spain. In 1893, she resigned as General.

 

32년 동안이나 로마의 수도원에서 은둔생활을 하였던 그녀는 1925년 선종했다.

She lived in seclusion in a monastery in Rome for 32 years and died in 1925.
