성녀 피데스(Saint Faith)는 하느님의 지혜를 뜻하는 소피아(Sophia)에서 나오는 세 가지 신학적 덕목으로 신덕(信德)이라고 한다.

Saint Fides refers to the three theological virtues as Faith, derived from the word Sophia, which means God's wisdom. 

 

신덕(信德)은 사랑을 뜻한다.

Faith means love. 

 

세 명의 딸들의 순교에 관한 전설적 이야기에 따르면 이 세 가지 신학적 덕목은 실제 로마의 과부인 성녀 소피아(Saint Sophia)의 세 명의 딸들 이름이라고도 한다.

According to the legendary story about the martyrdom of the three daughters, these three theological virtues are actually the names of the three daughters of Saint Sophia, a Roman widow. 

 

성녀 피데스(Saint Faith)는 순교 당시 12살로 심한 매를 맞았으나 큰 상처를 입지 않자 끓는 물을 부었고, 그래도 별 효과가 없자 참수형에 처했다고 한다.

It is said that Saint Faith was 12 years old at the time of her martyrdom and was severely beaten, but when she was not seriously injured, she was poured boiling water on her, and when that did not have any effect, she was beheaded. 

 

그리고 그녀의 어머니인 성녀 소피아(Saint Sophia)는 자신의 세 딸이 로마에서 순교한 후 딸들의 무덤에서 기도하다가 3일 뒤 평화롭게 선종했다고 한다.

Her mother, Saint Sophia, is said to have died peacefully three days later while praying at the tombs of her three daughters after they were martyred in Rome.
