달마티아(Dalmatia)의 아퀼레이아(Aquileia) 근처 스트리도니아(Stridonia)의 부유한 가정에서 성 히에로니무스(Saint Jerome)는 태어났다.
Saint Jerome was born into a wealthy family in Stridonia, near Aquileia in Dalmatia.
12세 때 로마(Roma)에서 당시의 저명한 문법학자인 도나투스(Aelius Donatus)의 문하생으로 수사학과 라틴어 문학을 공부하였다.
At the age of 12, he studied rhetoric and Latin literature in Rome as a student of Aelius Donatus, a famous grammarian of the time.
