성 지그문트 고라즈도프스키(Saint Zygmunt Gorazdowski)는 1845년 11월 1일 폴란드에서 태어났다. 그는 독실한 가톨릭 신자 가정에서 철저히 종교적인 분위기에서 성장했다.
Saint Zygmunt Gorazdowski was born in Poland on November 1, 1845. He grew up in a thoroughly religious atmosphere in a devout Catholic family.
하지만 그에게 어렸을 때부터 시련을 겪어야 했는데 즉 그는 폐병으로 고생했다. 그는 고등교육을 마친 후 법학 공부를 시작하였다.
However, he had to go through hardships from an early age, namely, he suffered from lung disease. After completing his higher education, he began studying law.
법학 공부를 시작한 지 2년이 끝나갈 무렵 그는 사제로서의 성소(Calling)를 느끼고 가톨릭 신학교에 들어가기로 결심하였다.
At the end of his second year of law study, he felt called to become a priest and decided to enter a Catholic seminary.
자신의 몸이 허약함에도 불구하고 치료를 받으며 신학교에서 학업을 마친 그는 1871년 7월 21일 사제로 서품되었다.
Despite his weakness, he received treatment, completed his studies at the seminary, and was ordained a priest on July 21, 1871.
그는 콜레라가 유행했을 때 병들고 죽어가는 사람들을 돕기 위해 그가 할 수 있는 모든 일을 했다. 심지어 감염의 위험이 매우 높은 시신을 수습하는 일을 마다하지 않았다.
He did everything he could to help the sick and dying during the cholera epidemic. They even did not hesitate to collect corpses that were at a very high risk of infection.
그는 부모와 교사 그리고 젊은이들을 돕기 위해서 교리서와 다른 많은 책들을 저술하고 출판하였다. 또한 가난하고 고통 받는 이들을 돕는 것을 멈추지 않았다.
He wrote and published a catechism and many other books to help parents, teachers, and young people. He also never stopped helping the poor and suffering.
그리고 그는 가난한 이들을 위한 무료 급식소, 보건 센터, 가난한 신학생들을 위한 곳, 미혼모와 고아들을 위한 집 등을 설립하였다.
He also established a soup kitchen for the poor, a health center, a place for poor seminarians, and a home for unwed mothers and orphans.
또한 그는 이러한 사업들을 지속하고 유지하기 위해서 1884년 2월 17일 성 요셉의 딸 수도회(the Sisters of Saint Joseph)를 설립하였다.
Additionally, in order to continue and maintain these projects, he founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph on February 17, 1884.
가난하고 집 없는 사람들의 사제로 불렸던 그는 1920년 1월 1일 리비프(Lviv)에서 선종하였다.
He was called the priest of the poor and homeless and died in Lviv on January 1, 1920.
