어느 집정관의 딸이었던 성녀 소테리스(Saint Soteris)는 그리스도를 위하여 자신의 신분과 재산 그리고 한없이 아름다운 모습까지 포기하고 오로지 하느님께 자신을 봉헌했다.

Saint Soteris, the daughter of a consul, gave up her status, wealth, and infinite beauty for Christ and dedicated herself solely to God. 

 

그녀는 자신의 신분과 미모 때문에 수없이 많은 유혹과 위험을 당했기 때문에 모든 장신구를 떼어버리고 평민의 옷차림을 하고 다녔다.

Because of her status and beauty, she faced countless temptations and dangers, so she took off all her jewelry and wore the clothes of a commoner. 

 

디오클레티아누스와 막시미아누스 황제는 그리스도교를 반대하는 칙령을 반포하자 그녀는 단호히 순교할 결심으로 준비하던 중 그리스도인으로 고발되어 재판관에게 끌려갔다.

When Emperors Diocletian and Maximian issued edicts against Christianity, she was prepared to commit martyrdom, but she was accused of being a Christian and taken to a judge.  

 

재판관은 귀족의 딸이기에 처음에는 조심스럽게 회유시키려 노력했다.

Because the judge was the daughter of a nobleman, he tried to appease her cautiously at first. 

 

그러나 그녀는 결국 모진 고문 끝에 참수형을 받고 순교하였다. 그때 그녀의 나이는 불과 15세였다고 한다.

However, she was eventually beheaded and martyred after severe torture. It is said that she was only 15 years old at the time.
