성 요셉(Saint Joseph)은 예수님의 양아버지이자 성모 마리아의 남편이다.

Saint Joseph is the adoptive father of Jesus and the husband of the Virgin Mary. 

 

성 요셉(Saint Joseph)은 다윗 왕가의 후손이었지만 당시 나자렛에 살면서 목수 일을 하고 있었고 의로운 사람이었다.

Saint Joseph was a descendant of the royal family of David, but at the time he lived in Nazareth, worked as a carpenter, and was a righteous man. 

 

그는 성모 마리아와 약혼하였으나 성령으로 말미암아 아기를 가진 그녀와 파혼하지 말라는 천사의 말을 듣고 그녀를 아내로 맞아들였다.

He was betrothed to the Virgin Mary, but after being told by an angel through the Holy Spirit not to break off the engagement with her who had a child, he took her as his wife. 

 

그는 성모 마리아와 함께 아기 예수님을 율법의 규정대로 할례를 베풀고 예루살렘 성전에서 아기 예수님의 봉헌 예식을 가졌다.

Together with Mary, he circumcised baby Jesus according to the regulations of the law and held a dedication ceremony for baby Jesus in the temple in Jerusalem. 

 

그리고 헤로데의 영아 학살을 피하고자 가족을 이끌고 이집트로 피신하였고, 헤로데가 죽은 뒤에야 가족을 데리고 나자렛으로 돌아와 살았다.
