성 아우구스티노 로스첼리(Saint Agostino Roscelli)는 1818년 7월 27일 이탈리아에서 태어났다.

Saint Augustine Roscelli was born in Italy on July 27, 1818. 

 

그는 부나 명예에 있어서 축복을 받지는 못했지만, 그 대신 하느님께서 그에게 덕이 높은 부모와 총명함 그리고 진실한 친구를 허락하셨다.

He was not blessed with wealth or fame, but God gave him virtuous parents, intelligence, and true friends. 

 

그는 고요한 산으로 둘러싸인 고향에서 가족의 양을 치며 성장했고, 그의 영혼은 기도에 열려 있었으며 그의 마음 또한 하느님께 가까이 이끌려졌다.

He grew up shepherding his family's sheep in his home surrounded by quiet mountains, his soul was open to prayer, and his heart was drawn close to God.

 

16살 때인 1835년 5월 그는 자신이 사제직에로 불림을 받았다는 소명(calling)을 깨닫게 되었다. 대부분의 농부들이 하느님의 부르심에 응답하는 것이 불가능하다고 여겨졌지만 그의 성소(Vocation)는 그의 기도생활과 너그러운 사람들의 재정적 후원을 받아 가능하게 되었다.

In May 1835, at the age of 16, he realized his calling to the priesthood. Although it was considered impossible for most farmers to respond to God's call, his vocation was made possible through his prayer life and the financial support of generous people. 

 

그는 1846년 9월 사제로 서품을 받았다. 이후 그는 지원을 받지 못하여 굶주림이나 매춘 생활로 전락할 위험에 처한 가족조차 없는 젊은 여성들을 교육하는 기숙학교를 만들었다.

He was ordained a priest in September 1846. He later created a boarding school to educate young women without families who were at risk of starvation or prostitution due to lack of support. 

 

1876년에는 무염(無染) 수녀회(the Institute of Sisters of the Immaculata)를 창설하여 이 기관과 그가 창설한 다른 기관들을 운영하게 하였다. 이러한 자선행위와 더불어 1874년 그는 지방 고아원의 지도신부로 임명되었다.

In 1876, he founded the Institute of Sisters of the Immaculata to run this and other institutions he founded. In addition to these acts of charity, in 1874 he was appointed as the head priest of a local orphanage. 

 

그는 22년간 이 소임을 수행하며 1902년 5월 7일 선종하였다.

He carried out this mission for 22 years and passed away on May 7, 1902.
