성녀 플라비아 도미틸라(Saint Flavia Domitilla)에 대해서는 여러 전승이 전해지고 있는데 그로 인해 확실한 내용을 확인하기는 거의 불가능하다.

There are many legends about Saint Flavia Domitilla, but it is almost impossible to confirm the exact details. 

 

한 전승에 따르면 그녀는 로마 집정관의 조카딸로 교황에게 직접 동정녀의 면사포를 받고 도미티아누스 황제의 박해 때 다른 많은 이들과 함께 폰티아(Pontia) 섬으로 추방되어 그리스도를 위해 오랜 고통의 시간을 견뎌야 했다.

According to one tradition, she was the niece of a Roman consul, received the Virgin's Veil directly from the Pope, and was exiled with many others to the island of Pontia during the persecution of Emperor Domitian, where she endured a long time of suffering for Christ. 

 

그러고 나서 다시 이탈리아 중부 테라치나(Terracina)로 끌려갔는데, 그곳에서 그녀의 가르침과 기적으로 인해 많은 이들이 그리스도에 대한 신앙을 갖게 되었다.

She was then taken back to Terracina in central Italy, where her teachings and miracles brought many people to faith in Christ. 

 

그러자 재판관은 그녀가 다른 동정녀인 성녀 에우프로시나(Saint Euphrosyna)와 성녀 테오도라(Saint Theodora)와 함께 있는 방에 불을 지르도록 명령했고, 그렇게 해서 그들의 영광스러운 순교가 완성되었다.

Then the judge ordered that the room where she was with the other virgins, Saint Euphrosyna and Saint Theodora, be set on fire, thus completing their glorious martyrdom. 

 

그녀는 누릴 수 있는 모든 부귀영화를 포기하고 목숨 바쳐 신앙을 지킨 순교자로서 기억되었다.

She was remembered as a martyr who gave up all the wealth and glory she could have enjoyed and sacrificed her life to protect her faith.
