오늘날 성녀 사투르니나(Saint Saturnina)의 이야기는 완전히 전설적인 이야기로 여겨지고 있다.

Today the story of Saint Saturnina is considered downright legendary. 

 

전설적 이야기에 따르면 그녀는 독일의 귀족 가문에서 태어나 12살 때 이미 주님을 섬기기 위해 동정을 서약했다.

According to the legend, she was born into a German noble family and took a vow of virginity to serve the Lord at the age of 12. 

 

하지만 스무 살이 되자 부모에 의해 색슨족의 한 귀족 청년과 결혼할 것을 강요받았다. 그래서 그녀는 집에서 도망쳐 프랑스 북부 아라스로 가서 목동들 사이에 숨어 하녀로 생활했다.

However, when she turned 20, she was forced by her parents to marry a young Saxon nobleman. So she ran away from home and went to Arras in northern France, where she hid among shepherds and lived as a maid. 

 

그러던 중 프랑스까지 쫓아온 구혼자에게 발각되어 강제로 추행하려는 순간 끝까지 저항하다가 구혼자의 칼에 목이 잘려 죽고 말았다.

Then, she was discovered by a suitor who had followed her all the way to France, and when he forcibly tried to molest her, she resisted to the end and died after being decapitated by the suitor's sword. 

 

그 후 구혼자는 결국 분수에 빠져 죽었고, 동네 사람들의 증언에 의하면 그녀가 직접 자신의 손으로 자신의 머리를 들고 옆 마을에 있는 성당까지 갔다고 한다.

Afterwards, the suitor eventually drowned in a fountain and died, and according to the testimony of the locals, she carried his head with her own hands and went to the cathedral in the next village.
