성녀 빈첸시아 제로사(Saint Vincenza Gerosa)는 일찍 부모를 여의고 고아가 되어 제대로 된 교육도 받지 못하고 가난하게 자랐다.

Saint Vincenza Gerosa lost her parents at an early age, became an orphan, and grew up in poverty without receiving a proper education. 

 

하지만 그녀는 자신의 처지를 불행으로 여기지 않았고 십자가에 매달려 돌아가신 예수님에 비하면 행복한 삶이라고 생각했다.

However, she did not consider her situation to be unfortunate, and thought it was a happy life compared to Jesus who died on the cross. 

 

그는 늘 기도할 때 가난한 아이들을 위해 도움을 줄 수 있는 사람이 되게 해달라고 청했다. 그리고 자신이 태어난 곳에서 가난한 아이들을 교육시키는데 힘썼다.

When he prayed, he always asked for help to help poor children. And he worked hard to educate poor children in the place where he was born. 

 

어느 날 그녀는 17살 한 소녀를 만나는데 그 소녀와 함께 로베레의 애덕회( Sisters of Charity of Lovere)를 설립하였다. 그 소녀는 바로 성녀 바르톨로메아 카피타니오(Saint Bartholomea Capitanio)였다.

One day she met a 17-year-old girl, with whom she founded the Sisters of Charity of Lovere. That girl was Saint Bartholomea Capitanio. 

 

그녀는 고통 받는 이들에겐 십자가에 못박혀 돌아가신 예수님의 죽음을 생각하라는 위로의 말을 하였다. 이 때문에 그녀는 이런 말을 남겼다.

She gave comforting words to those who were suffering, telling them to think about the death of Jesus who died on the cross. Because of this, she left behind these words. 

 

“십자가의 의미를 알지 못하는 사람은 아무것도 모르는 사람이다. 십자가를 아는 사람은 더 배울 것이 없다.”

“Anyone who does not know the meaning of the cross knows nothing. “He who knows the cross has nothing more to learn.”
