성 라디슬라오(Saint Ladislaus)는 헝가리의 왕의 아들로 태어났다. 그는 1077년 형이 사망한 후 왕위를 계승하였다.
Saint Ladislaus was born as the son of the King of Hungary. He succeeded to the throne after his older brother died in 1077.
국가를 통치하는 데 있어서, 그는 우선적으로 유목민 시절의 풍습에 기초한 법들을 개정해 그리스도교 국가의 이념에 맞는 법들로 정비하여 새롭게 법전을 편찬했다.
In governing the country, he first revised laws based on the customs of the nomadic era, organized them into laws that fit the ideology of a Christian state, and compiled a new legal code.
그는 통치자로서 헝가리를 안정시킨 왕일 뿐 아니라 정의를 실천하며 덕행을 쌓는 데도 게으르지 않았다.
Not only was he the king who stabilized Hungary as a ruler, but he was also not lazy in practicing justice and cultivating virtue.
그는 왕국 내 이교도들의 개종에 큰 노력을 기울이면서도 유대교와 이슬람교도들에게 종교의 자유를 베풀며 화합을 도모하는 관대함도 보였다.
While he made great efforts to convert the pagans in the kingdom, he also showed generosity by granting religious freedom to Jews and Muslims and promoting harmony.
그는 예루살렘 성지 회복을 위한 제1차 십자군의 지도자로 선정되기도 했으나 체코 정복을 위해 전장에 나갔다가 1095년 7월 29일 선종하였다.
He was selected as the leader of the First Crusade to recover the Holy Land of Jerusalem, but he went to the battlefield to conquer the Czech Republic and died on July 29, 1095.
