전승에 따르면 구르크의 성녀 엠마(Saint Hemma of Gurk)는 황제의 친척으로 황제의 궁중에서 성장하였다.
According to tradition, Saint Hemma of Gurk was a relative of the emperor and grew up in his court.
그녀는 결혼하여 두 아들을 얻었으나 황제에게 받은 남편 소유의 광산에서 발생한 폭동으로 두 아들이 살해되는 불행한 일이 일어났다.
She married and had two sons, but an unfortunate incident occurred in which both sons were killed in a riot that broke out in a mine owned by her husband, which was given to her by the emperor.
남편은 극도의 슬픔을 이기지 못해 복수를 결심하기도 했으나 그녀의 만류로 복수 대신 하느님께 기도하면서 로마를 순례하고 돌아오는 길에 선종하였다고 한다.
It is said that her husband could not overcome his extreme sadness and decided to take revenge, but she dissuaded him, so instead of taking revenge, he prayed to God and died on his way back from a pilgrimage to Rome.
그 후 그녀는 자신의 삶을 온전히 하느님께 봉헌할 결심을 했다. 그녀는 상속받은 막대한 재산으로 가난한 사람들을 도와주어 살아생전에 사람들로부터 존경을 받았다고 한다.
After that, she decided to dedicate her life completely to God. It is said that she was respected by people during her lifetime by helping the poor with the enormous wealth she inherited.
그리고 그녀는 자신이 설립한 수도원에 들어가 수녀로서 여생을 보내다 선종했다.
She then entered the monastery she founded and spent the rest of her life as a nun before passing away.
