나지안주스의 성녀 논나(Saint Nonna of Nazianzus)는 오늘날 튀르키예 지역의 그리스도교 가정에서 태어났다.

Saint Nonna of Nazianzus was born into a Christian family in today's Turkiye region. 

 

그녀는 이교도인 남편과 결혼하였고 오랜 시간 모범적 생활과 끈질긴 노력으로 남편의 개종을 이끌었다.

She married her husband, a pagan, and led his conversion through an exemplary life and persistent efforts over a long period of time. 

 

남편은 325년에 그리스도교로 개종하고 세례를 바았으며 그 후에 사제가 되고 주교까지 되었다. 그녀는 남편이 주교가 된 뒤에 가난한 사람들과 고아들을 돌보며 자녀들을 훌륭히 키웠는데 자녀 중 세 명이 성인으로 공경을 받고 있다.

Her husband converted to Christianity and was baptized in 325, and later became a priest and bishop. After her husband became a bishop, she raised her children well, caring for the poor and orphans, and three of them are revered as saints. 

 

그녀는 자녀를 세상에 낳은 것에 만족하지 않고 모두가 천국에 가기를 원한 완벽한 그리스도인 어머니의 모범이었다.

She was the perfect example of a Christian mother who was not satisfied with giving birth to her children and wanted them all to go to heaven. 

 

그래서 그녀의 아들은 경건한 집안 출신으로 아버지의 합당한 동반자이자 훌륭한 어머니이자 육체로는 여자지만 영적으로는 모든 남자보다 뛰어났다고 칭송하며 입으로는 진리만을 말하고 늘 겸손하게 침묵하며 하느님을 경외하는 삶을 살았다고 전해주었다.

So, her son came from a godly family, was a worthy companion to his father, was a great mother, and was praised as being physically female but spiritually superior to all men. She spoke only the truth with her mouth, always remained humble, and lived a life of fear of God.  

 

그녀는 374년 남편이 선종한 후 같은 해에 세상을 떠났다.

She died in 374, the same year as her husband.
