하느님께서 인간을 창조하시고 모든 사람에게 그를 보호하는 수호천사를 하나씩 두었다고 한다.
It is said that God created humans and gave everyone a guardian angel to protect them.
수호천사는 이 세상에서 하느님을 알고 사랑하며 선행을 하도록 인간들을 개별적으로 인도하고 온갖 유혹과 악으로부터 보호하며 또 그들이 구원을 받을 수 있도록 도와주는 특별한 임무를 하느님에게 부여받은 영적 피조물이다.
Guardian angels are spiritual creatures given a special mission by God to individually guide humans to know and love God and do good deeds in this world, protect them from all temptations and evil, and help them achieve salvation.
수호천사는 한 개인뿐만 아니라 단체나 국가 혹은 본당을 수호하기도 한다.
Guardian angels protect not only individuals, but also groups, countries, or parishes.
구약성경에는 위험 중에 있는 개인이나 공동체를 돕거나 보호하는 천사에 대한 언급이 있다.
In the Old Testament, there are references to angels helping or protecting individuals or communities in danger.
“보라, 내가 너희 앞에 천사를 보내어, 길에서 너희를 지키고 내가 마련한 곳으로 너희를 데려가게 하겠다.”
“Behold, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”
신약성경에서도 천사가 하느님 백성의 협력자라는 오래된 관념이 발견된다.
The old idea of angels as collaborators of God's people is also found in the New Testament.
“너희는 이 작은 이들 가운데 하나라도 업신여기지 않도록 주의하여라. 내가 너희에게 말한다. 하늘에서 그들의 천사들이 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 얼굴을 늘 보고 있다.”
“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones. I tell you. “In heaven their angels are always beholding the face of my Father who is in heaven.”
그리스도인들은 수호천사(Guardian angel)를 의미하는 안젤로(Angelus)와 그 여성형인 안젤라(Angela)를 자신의 세례명으로 사용할 수 있다.
Christians can use Angelus, which means guardian angel, and its feminine form, Angela, as their baptismal names.
수호천사 기도문
언제나 저를 지켜주시는 수호천사님 Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
인자하신 주님꼐서 저를 당신께 맡기셨으니 to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day,
오늘 저를 비추시고 인도하시고 다스리소서. be at my side to light and guard,
rule and guide.
아멘. Amen.
