복녀 마르가리타 콜론나(Blessed Margherita Colonna)는 1255년경 이탈리아의 로마(Roma)에서 유명한 귀족 가문의 딸로 태어났다.
Blessed Margherita Colonna was born around 1255 in Rome, Italy, as the daughter of a famous noble family.
어려서 부모를 일찍 여의자 그녀는 오빠인 조반니(Giovanni)와 자코모(Giacomo)의 보살핌을 받으며 성장하였다.
Having lost her parents at an early age, she grew up under the care of her older brothers Giovanni and Giacomo.
그리고 성장한 뒤에는 결혼하라는 권유를 물리치고 오직 하느님을 섬기는 삶을 살겠다고 결심했다.
And after she grew up, she rejected the invitation to get married and decided to live a life serving only God.
처음에는 오빠인 조반니(Giovanni)의 반대가 있었지만 당시 작은 형제회 수사(Franciscan friar)로서 나중에 추기경이 된 오빠 자코모(Giacomo)의 도움을 받아서 가능하였다.
At first, there was opposition from her older brother Giovanni, but it was possible with the help of her older brother Giacomo, who was a Franciscan friar at the time and later became a cardinal.
그래서 그녀는 팔레스트리나(Palestrina) 근처로 가서 고독 속에 은거하며 기도와 고행을 실천하고 병자와 가난한 이들을 돌보는 데 힘쓰며 살았다.
So she went to near Palestrina and lived in seclusion in solitude, practicing prayer and asceticism, and caring for the sick and the poor.
그녀는 아시시(Assisi)의 클라라회(Order of Saint Clare)에 입회할 뜻을 가졌지만 병 때문에 어려워지자 팔레스트리나(Palestrina)에 수도원을 세우라는 뜻으로 받아들였다.
She intended to join the Order of Saint Clare of Assisi, but when her illness made it difficult for her, she accepted the offer to found a monastery in Palestrina.
그래서 상속받은 재산과 추기경이 된 오빠의 도움을 받아 고향에 클라라회(Order of Saint Clare)의 규칙을 따르는 수녀원을 설립하였다.
So, with the help of her inherited wealth and her brother, who became a cardinal, she established a convent in her hometown that followed the rules of the Order of Saint Clare.
하지만 불행하게도 그녀는 건강이 더 나빠져서 이 수녀원에서 서원조차 하지 못하였다. 7년 동안 그녀는 온갖 병으로 시달리면서도 용기와 인내심을 잃지 않았다.
But unfortunately, her health worsened and she could not even make her vows at this convent. For seven years, she suffered from various illnesses but did not lose courage and patience.
그녀는 여러 번 탈혼(ecstasy)을 경험하고 옆구리에 그리스도의 성흔(stigmata)을 입은 것으로 전해졌으며 기적을 행하는 사람이란 명성을 얻게 되었다.
She was said to have experienced ecstasy several times, to have received the stigmata of Christ on her side, and to have gained a reputation as a miracle worker.
1280년 12월 30일에 그녀는 선종하였다.
She died on December 30, 1280.
