성 빈첸시오 마리아 스트람비(Saint Vincenzo Strambi)는 이탈리아의 어느 약제사의 아들로 태어났다.
Saint Vincenzo Strambi was born as the son of an Italian apothecary.
그는 장난기가 많은 아이였지만 가난한 부랑아를 보면 자기의 옷과 신발조차 벗어주는 착한 소년이었다.
Although he was a very playful child, he was a good boy who would even take off his clothes and shoes when he saw a poor tramp.
그는 교구사제가 될 마음으로 공부했으나 서품 직전에 십자가의 성 바오로(Saint Paul of the Cross)의 영향을 받고 예수 고난회(Passionists)에 관심을 갖게 되었다.
He studied to become a parish priest, but just before ordination, he became influenced by Saint Paul of the Cross and became interested in the Passionists.
그래서 그는 극심하던 부모의 반대를 이기고 마침내 입회하였다.
So he finally joined, overcoming his parents' extreme opposition.
그는 수도원 내의 여러 직책을 맡았고 1781년에 관구장이 되었으나 1801년에는 자신이 극구 반대했음에도 불구하고 주교로 임명되었다.
He held various positions within the monastery and was made provincial in 1781, but in 1801 he was appointed bishop, despite his strong opposition.
하느님의 영광을 위한 그의 끊임없는 노력은 이탈리아 전역의 사제와 평신도들에게 존경과 사랑을 받았다.
His ceaseless efforts for the glory of God earned him the respect and love of priests and laity throughout Italy.
1808년 그는 나폴레옹의 정책에 반대하여 추방되었으나 1813년 나폴레옹이 실각함으로써 교구로 돌아왔다.
In 1808, he was exiled for opposing Napoleon's policies, but returned to the diocese when Napoleon was overthrown in 1813.
그는 어떤 직책에서도 수도생활의 정신을 조금도 흐트러트리지 않은 사람으로 유명했다. 그는 12월 31일에 마지막으로 성체(Eucharist)를 모셨고 1824년 1월 1일에 선종하였다.
He was famous as a man who never let the spirit of monastic life be disturbed in any position. He received the Eucharist for the last time on December 31 and died on January 1, 1824.
