로마 군인이던 아버지의 아들로 태어난 성 펠릭스(Saint Felix)는 이탈리아의 남부 나폴리(Napoli) 교외인 놀라(Nola)에서 태어나 자랐다.
Saint Felix, the son of a Roman soldier, was born and raised in Nola, a suburb of Naples in southern Italy.
부친이 사망하자 그는 아버지의 유산을 가난한 사람들에게 나누어 주고 놀라의 성 막시무스(Saint Maximus) 주교로부터 사제 서품을 받았다.
When his father died, he distributed his father's inheritance to the poor and was ordained a priest by Bishop Saint Maximus of Nola.
그 후 그는 성 막시무스(Saint Maximus) 주교의 보좌로 활약하다가 그의 스승이 데키우스 황제의 박해를 피하여 사막으로 갔을 때 스승 대신에 체포되어 감옥에 갇혔다.
Afterwards, he served as a counselor to Bishop Saint Maximus, but when his teacher went to the desert to escape persecution by Emperor Decius, he was arrested and imprisoned in his place.
그러던 어느 날 천사가 그에게 나타나서 주교를 도와 주라고 지시하였다. 그러자 그의 몸을 감고 있던 사슬이 풀리고 감옥 문이 열려 마침내 그는 주교에게 갈 수 있었다.
Then one day an angel appeared to him and instructed him to help the bishop. Then the chains around his body were removed and the prison door was opened so that he could finally go to the bishop.
그가 성 막시무스(Saint Maximus) 주교를 찾아갔을 때 주교는 추위와 배고픔으로 말조차 제대로 할 수 없는 상태였다.
When he visited Bishop Saint Maximus, the bishop was so cold and hungry that he could not even speak properly.
데키우스 황제 사후에도 그는 수배 인물이었으나 박해가 종식될 때까지 6개월 동안 마른 우물 속에 숨어 지내다가 이듬해에 박해가 그치자 다시 사제 직무로 돌아왔다.
Even after the death of Emperor Decius, he was a wanted man, but he hid in a dry well for six months until the persecution ended. When the persecution stopped the following year, he returned to his priestly duties.
성 막시무스(Saint Maximus) 주교가 서거했을 때 신자들은 모두가 그가 주교가 되기를 원했지만, 그는 자신의 선배 사제인 퀸투스(Quintus)를 주교품에 올리도록 그들을 설득하였다.
When Bishop Saint Maximus died, the faithful all wanted him to become bishop, but he persuaded them to consecrate his predecessor, the priest Quintus.
그 후 그는 가난한 사람들과 함께 생활하다가 260년 1월 14일에 선종하였다.
After that, he lived among the poor and died on January 14, 260.
