성녀 이타(Saint Íte)는 왕가의 후손으로 아일랜드 워터퍼드(Waterford)의 디시이즈(Decies)에서 태어났다.

Saint Íte was of royal descent and was born in Decies, Waterford, Ireland. 

 

그녀는 결혼하기를 거부하다가 마침내 동정생활을 할 수 있는 허락을 부친으로부터 받았다. 그녀는 리머릭의 킬리디(Killeedy)로 옮겨 가서 하느님께 봉헌된 자매들의 공동체를 세우고 소년들을 위한 학교도 개설하였다. 

She refused to marry, but finally received permission from her father to live a virgin life. She moved to Killeedy, Limerick, where she established a community of sisters consecrated to God and also opened a school for boys. 

 

그녀의 제자 중에는 성 브렌다누스(Saint Brendanus)가 있었다. 그녀는 수많은 기적을 행하였는데 예를 들면 참수당한 사람의 머리를 재결합시켰다거나 혹은 하늘에서 내려온 음식으로 일생을 살았다는 것이다. 

Among her disciples was Saint Brendanus. She performed numerous miracles, such as reuniting the head of a beheaded man or living on food sent down from heaven. 

 

그녀의 교육 목표는 ‘마음의 순수성이 있는 하느님께 대한 믿음, 신심이 내포된 생활의 단순성 그리고 사랑이 깃든 관용’이었다. 

Her educational goal was ‘faith in God with purity of heart, simplicity of life with devotion, and tolerance with love.’ 

 

그녀는 자신의 죽음이 다가오고 있음을 느꼈을 때 수녀 공동체를 불러 킬리디 주변 지역의 성직자와 평신도에게 하늘의 축복을 기원하며 570년경에 선종했다. 

When she sensed her death approaching, she summoned her community of nuns to pray for heaven's blessings on the clergy and laity of the area around Kilidi, and died around 570.
