르망의 성 율리아노(Saint Julian of Le Mans)의 생애에 대해 알려진 내용은 거의 없다.

Little is known about the life of Saint Julian of Le Mans. 

 

그는 아마도 로마의 귀족 출신으로 로마에서 사제와 주교품을 받고 복음을 전하기 위해 갈리아 지방으로 파견된 듯하다.

He was probably from a Roman noble family, was ordained a priest and bishop in Rome, and was dispatched to the Gaul region to spread the gospel. 

 

당시 이곳은 오늘날 프랑스의 르망 지역으로 전설에 따르면 당시 물 부족으로 큰 어려움을 겪고 있었는데 그가 지팡이를 땅에 대고 기도하자 그곳에서 물이 솟아났다고 한다.

At the time, this was the area of ​​Le Mans in today's France. According to legend, it was suffering from a water shortage at the time, and when he placed his staff on the ground and prayed, water came out of there.

So he was able to preach freely in the Le Mans area and convert many people to Christianity. He received donations from converts, cared for orphans, the poor, and the sick, and built the first cathedral in Le Mans.

He spent his entire life ministering in the Le Mans area. He was also the first bishop of the Diocese of Le Mans and was greatly respected as the ‘Apostle of Le Mans.’ After his retirement, he lived a lonely life in Saint-Marceau, north of Le Mans, and died peacefully. 

 

전승에 따르면 그는 로마에서 사도 성 베드로(Saint Peter)의 제자가 된 로마인으로 성 베드로(Saint Peter)에 의해 복음을 전하기 위해 르망 지역으로 파견되었다고 한다.

According to tradition, he was a Roman who became a disciple of the apostle Saint Peter in Rome and was dispatched by Saint Peter to the Le Mans area to preach the gospel.
