성 안드레아 코르시니(Saint Andrew Corsini)는 이탈리아의 명문 귀족 가문에서 태어났다. 그의 부모님은 결혼 후 오랫동안 자녀가 없어서 근심하며 기도하였고 아이를 갖게 되었다.
Saint Andrew Corsini was born into a prestigious Italian noble family. After getting married, his parents had no children for a long time, so they worried and prayed and had a child.
그의 어머니는 태중의 아기를 성모 마리아의 보호에 맡기며 사도 성 안드레아(Saint Andrew the Apostle) 축일에 그를 낳았다.
His mother gave birth to him on the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle, entrusting her unborn child to the care of the Virgin Mary.
어린 시절 학교에 입학한 그는 비상한 재능을 발휘하기도 했지만 그 성질이 난폭하고 고약해 어린 동생들을 늘 울리곤 해 어머니의 눈물과 기도가 그치지 않았다.
When he entered school as a child, he showed extraordinary talent, but his temper was so violent and nasty that he would always make his younger siblings cry, causing his mother's tears and prayers to never stop.
청소년기에 접어들면서 부모에게까지 대드는 그에게 어머니는 성모 마리아께 기도해서 태어난 이야기를 해주었다.
As he entered adolescence, he even confronted his parents, and his mother told him the story of how he was born after praying to the Virgin Mary.
어머니의 이야기에 자극받은 그는 어머니가 성모 마리아께 기도한 곳을 찾아 오랫동안 기도한 후 카르멜회(Carmelites)에 입회했다.
Inspired by his mother's story, he visited the place where his mother prayed to the Virgin Mary, prayed for a long time, and then joined the Carmelites.
명문 귀족 출신의 말썽꾸러기였던 그는 아주 모범적인 수도자로 변신했다. 그는 수도원의 청소나 허드렛일도 마다하지 않고 기꺼이 수행하며 겸손의 덕을 쌓아갔다.
He was a troublemaker from a prestigious noble family, but he transformed into an exemplary monk. He willingly performed cleaning and chores in the monastery, cultivating the virtue of humility.
1328년 사제품을 받은 후 성대히 첫 미사를 봉헌하길 원했던 부모의 뜻과는 달리, 그는 교외의 작은 수도원 성당(ecclesia)에서 조용히 미사를 봉헌했다.
After being ordained a priest in 1328, contrary to the wishes of his parents, who wanted him to celebrate his first Mass in a grand manner, he celebrated Mass quietly in a small monastery church (ecclesia) in the countryside.
그 후 그는 1349년 피에졸레의 주교로 임명되었다. 그러나 그는 이 직책을 모면하려고 멀리 도망쳤으나 이내 발견되어 결국 주교 축성식을 가졌다.
He was then appointed bishop of Fiesole in 1349. However, he ran away to avoid this position, but was soon discovered and eventually consecrated as bishop.
주교로서 분쟁을 조정하는 특별한 재을 보였던 그는 늘 겸손한 자세로 엄격한 생활을 실천하며 가난한 이와 고통 중에 있는 이들을 사랑했다.
As a bishop, he showed a special talent for mediating disputes. He always lived a humble life with a humble attitude and loved the poor and those in pain.
그는 1373년 주님 성탄 대축일 밤미사를 봉헌하다가 성모의 발현을 보았는데 그가 주님 공현 대축일에 선종할 것을 미리 알려주었다고 한다.
He is said to have seen an apparition of the Virgin Mary while offering a night mass on the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord in 1373, and that she had informed him in advance that he would die on the Feast of the Epiphany.
