복녀 아르칸젤라 지를라니(Blessed Archangela Girlani)는 이탈리아에서 태어났다.

Blessed Archangela Girlani was born in Italy. 

 

그녀는 어릴 때부터 성실하고 신심이 두터운 아이로 사랑을 받았다. 그녀는 자신을 하느님께 바쳐 봉헌생활을 하겠다고 하자 그녀의 부친은 처음에 극구 반대하다가 결국은 딸에게 굴복하였다.

From an early age, she was loved as a sincere and religious child. When she announced that she would dedicate herself to God and lead a consecrated life, her father was strongly opposed at first, but eventually gave in to his daughter. 

 

그래서 1478년 그녀는 카르멜회(Carmelite)의 수녀가 되었고, 그러면서 아르칸젤라(Archangela)라는 수도명을 받았다.

So in 1478, she became a Carmelite nun and received the religious name Archangela. 

 

그녀는 여러 면에서 성숙했기 때문에 서원 후 얼마 되지 않아 원장이 되었을 뿐만 아니라 카르멜회(Carmelite) 설립 책임자로 파견되었다.

Because she had matured in many ways, she not only became a prioress not long after making her vows, but was also sent to be in charge of founding the Carmelites. 

 

그녀는 모든 수도자적인 덕행의 모범으로서 존경을 받았고, 보속을 실행하는 데에 지극히 엄격하였으며, 모든 이와의 기도 나눔을 통하여 사랑을 실천하였다.

She was revered as an example of all monastic virtues, was extremely strict in performing penance, and practiced love through prayer and sharing with all. 

 

장시간 동안 그녀는 탈혼(ecstasy) 상태에 빠지기도 했고 또 땅에서 몇 야드 높이의 공중에 떠 있을 때도 있었다고 한다.

It is said that she went into a state of ecstasy for long periods of time and at other times she floated in the air several yards above the ground. 

 

그녀는 자신이 설립 책임자로 있던 만투아(Mantua)에서 선종하였다.

She died in Mantua, where she was the founder.
