복자 세바스티아노 아파리치오(Blessed Sebastián de Aparicio)는 스페인의 가난한 부모의 아들로 태어나 어릴 때부터 양치는 일을 해왔다.

Blessed Sebastián de Aparicio was born as the son of poor parents in Spain and worked as a shepherd from an early age. 

 

15세 때에 그는 어느 과부 집의 종으로 들어갔는데 그 부인의 유혹이 심하여 즉시 나왔다. 그 후 그는 농부의 일을 하기 시작했다. 

At the age of 15, he went to work as a servant in a widow's house, but the woman's temptation was so strong that he left immediately. After that he started working as a farmer. 

 

그는 항상 기도에 열중하며 8년동안 일한 결과 여동생의 결혼 지참금을 넉넉히 벌게 되자 고향으로 왔다가 아메리카로 떠났다.

He was always devoted to prayer and worked for eight years. After earning enough money for his sister's wedding dowry, he returned to his hometown and then left for America. 

 

그는 멕시코에 정착하여 농사일을 계속하였다. 그러다가 장사, 건축 등으로 성공하여 큰 부자가 되었다.

He settled in Mexico and continued farming. He then became successful in business and architecture and became a very wealthy person. 

 

그는 돈을 자기만의 소유로 생각지 않고 가난한 사람과 정당한 품삯을 받지 못하는 사람들을 위하여 사용했다.

He did not consider the money as his own, but used it for the poor and those who did not receive fair wages. 

 

그는 부유한 가운데서도 극도의 엄격과 절제를 실행했고, 매트 위에서 잠잤으며, 가장 가난한 사람들과 똑같은 음식으로 만족하였다.

Even in his wealth, he practiced extreme severity and temperance, slept on a mat, and contented himself with the same food as the poorest people. 

 

1552년 그는 모든 사업에서 손을 떼고 전원생활을 즐겼는데, 20년 동안이나 땅을 개간하고 소를 키웠다.

In 1552, he withdrew from all business and enjoyed country life, cultivating land and raising cattle for 20 years. 

 

60세 때에 그는 어느 가난한 처녀와 결혼하였으나 부인이 곧 운명하였고 다시 재혼하였으나 그 생활도 오래 가지 않았다.

At the age of 60, he married a poor girl, but her wife soon died, and he remarried, but his life did not last long. 

 

70세가량 되었을 때 그는 하느님의 부르심이 곧 있을 것으로 믿고, 모든 재산을 클라라회(Poor Clares)에 기증한 뒤 작은 형제회 재속 3회원(Third Order of St. Francis)이 되었다.

When he was about 70 years old, believing that God's calling would soon come, he donated all his possessions to the Poor Clares and became a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. 

 

동물을 극히 사랑하고 친하게 지낸 것으로 유명했던 그는 90세의 나이에 선종하였다.

He was famous for his extreme love and closeness to animals and passed away at the age of 90.
