성녀 레스티투타(Saint Restituta)는 튀니지에서 태어났다. 그녀의 생애에 대해 알려진 바가 거의 없고 순교 시기도 서로 다른 전승이 전해진다.

Saint Restituta was born in Tunisia. Little is known about her life, and there are different traditions about the time of her martyrdom. 

 

아마도 디오클레티아누스 황제의 그리스도교 박해 때 우상 숭배를 거부하고 카르타고(Carthago)에서 순교한 것으로 추정된다.

It is presumed that he refused to worship idols during the persecution of Christians by Emperor Diocletian and was martyred in Carthage. 

 

로마 순교록에 따르면 그녀는 여러 가지 방법으로 모진 고문을 받고 작은 배 위로 던져졌다. 재판관은 그 배에 불을 붙이고 화형으로 바다 위에서 죽도록 떠나보냈다.

According to the Roman Martyrology, she was tortured in various ways and thrown onto a small boat. The judge set the ship on fire and sent it away to die at sea. 

 

그러나 불길은 오히려 박해자들에게 돌아갔고, 그녀는 기도 중에 자신의 영혼을 하느님께 바쳤다.

But the flames instead returned to her persecutors, and she gave her soul to God in prayer. 

 

그녀의 시신은 하느님의 섭리로 이탈리아의 나폴리(Napoli) 앞바다에 있는 이스키아(Ischia) 섬에 도착해 그곳의 그리스도인들에 의해 큰 공경을 받았다.

By God's providence, her body arrived on the island of Ischia off the coast of Naples, Italy, and was greatly revered by the Christians there.
