성 타르시키우스는 3세기 말경에 많은 그리스도교 신자들이 박해를 받던
시기에 있었던 인물이다.
St. Tarsikius was a figure at a time when many Christians were persecuted
towards the end of the 3rd century.
어느날 신부가 감옥에 갇혀 있는 신자들이 성체를 모시지 못하는 것을 아쉬워하였으나,
아무도 감히 감옥까지 성체를 모시고 갈 엄두를 내지 못하였다.
One day, the priest regretted that the believers in prison could not receive
the Eucharist, but no one dared to take the Eucharist to the prison.
가는 도중에 이교도들에게 붙잡혀 죽음을 당할 수도 있기 때문이었다.
It was because he could be caught and killed by the pagans on the way.
이때 어린 성 타르시키우스가 나서서 그 일을 자청하였다.
At this time, the young Saint Tarshikius volunteered to do the job.
너무 어린 것을 걱정하는 신부에게 성 타르시키우스는 자신이 어리기 때문에
경비병을 속일 수 있을 것이라고 말하고, 신부도 이 말에 동의하였다.
To the priest, who was concerned about being too young,
St. Tarsikius told him that because of his youth he would be able to fool the guards,
and the priest agreed.
그래서 그는 성체를 모시는 임무를 맡게 되었다.
So he was entrusted with the mission of receiving the Eucharist.
그런데 그는 감옥으로 가는 길에 친구들을 만났고 그들은 성 타르시키우스에게 같이
놀자고 했지만 그는 급한 일이 있다며 거절하고 서둘러 가려 하였다.
But he met friends on the way to prison, and they asked St. Tarsikius to play with
them, but he refused, saying he had an urgent matter, and hurried on.
그런데 한 친구가 그의 손에 있는 성체를 발견하고 빼앗으려 하자, 이를 지키려는
성 타르시키우스와 친구들 간에 싸움이 벌어졌고 급기야는 친구들이 돌로 그를 쳤다.
However, when a friend discovered the Eucharist in his hand and
tried to take it away, A fight broke out between St. Tarshikius
and his friends who tried to protect it, and in the end, his friends stoned him.
이때 지나가던 군인이 다가오자 친구들은 도망가버렸고 성 타르시키우스는 온몸에 피를
흘리면서도 자신을 주교에게 데려다 줄 것을 부탁하여 주교에게 성체를 감옥에 갇혀 있는
신자들에게 전해 줄 것을 부탁하며 숨을 거두었다고 알려져있습니다.
At this time, a soldier passing by approached, and his friends ran away,
and Saint Tarsius died while bleeding all over his body,
asking him to take him to the bishop and asking the bishop to deliver the Eucharist
to the believers in prison. It is known.
