성 알베르토 슈미엘로프스키(Saint Albert Chmielowski)는 1845년 8월 20일 폴란드에서 부유한 귀족 가문의 아들로 태어났다.
Saint Albert Chmielowski was born on August 20, 1845 in Poland, the son of a wealthy noble family.
그는 가족 소유의 부동산 관리를 위해 농업을 공부하였다. 젊어서부터 정치에 관여했고, 17세 때에는 폭도들과 싸우다가 다리를 잃었다.
He studied agriculture to manage his family's real estate. He was involved in politics from a young age, and lost his leg while fighting a mob at the age of 17.
크라쿠프에서 그는 인기 있고 잘 알려진 형편이 좋은 예술가였다. 정치와 예술에 대한 그의 관심은 주변 사람들의 고통에 대해 예민한 인식을 갖게 해주었다.
In Krakow he was a popular, well-known and well-to-do artist. His interest in politics and art gave him a keen awareness of the suffering of those around him.
온화하고 열정적인 영혼의 소유자였던 그는 도움이 필요한 이들을 돕는 것에 대한 소명을 느꼈다. 그래서 그는 작은 형제회 제3회(Third Order of Saint Francis)에 입회하였다.
A gentle and passionate soul, he felt a calling to help those in need. So he entered the Third Order of Saint Francis.
예술을 그만둔 그는 크라쿠프에서 극빈자들을 위한 삶을 시작했다. 1887년 그는 가난한 이들의 종인 작은 형제회 제3회( Albertine Brothers)를 설립하였다.
After quitting art, he began living for the poor in Krakow. In 1887 he founded the Albertine Brothers.
그리고 그는 1891년에는 회색 자매회(Albertine Sisters)를 설립했다. 그들은 가난한 이들과 집이 없는 이들을 위해 음식과 쉼터를 제공하였다.
And he founded Albertine Sisters in 1891. They provided food and shelter for the poor and homeless.
그는 우리 시대의 가장 큰 재앙은 불쌍한 형제자매들의 고통을 경감시키기 위해 노력하지 않는 것이라고 역설하였다. 그는 1916년 12월 25일 선종하였다.
He emphasized that the greatest disaster of our time is not making efforts to alleviate the suffering of our poor brothers and sisters. He died on December 25, 1916.
