로스 안데스의 성녀 예수의 데레사(Saint Teresa of Jesus of Los Andes)는 1900년 7월 13일 칠레의 상류 가정에서 태어났다.

Saint Teresa of Jesus of Los Andes was born into an upper-class family in Chile on July 13, 1900. 

 

어려서부터 신심 깊었던 그녀는 성녀 아기 예수의 데레사(Saint Therese of the Child Jesus)의 자서전을 읽고 큰 감동을 받았다.

She was deeply religious from a young age and was deeply moved when she read the autobiography of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus. 

 

이를 통해서 그녀는 자신이 하느님을 위해 홀로 살기를 간절히 원하고 있음을 깨달았다. 그래서 그녀는 자기중심적인 성격을 극복하며 모든 것 위에 다른 사람을 두는 방향으로 자신을 변화시켜 나갔다.

Through this, she realized that she desperately wanted to live alone for God. So, she overcame her self-centered personality and changed herself to put others above everything. 

 

그녀의 자기 변화에 더 큰 영감을 준 것은 첫영성체 때였다. 이를 통해 그녀는 주어지는 모든 것을 값진 것으로 만들기 위해 더욱 노력하였다.

What further inspired her self-transformation was her First Holy Communion. Through this, she worked harder to make everything she was given valuable. 

 

1919년 5월 7일 19살의 나이에 그녀는 카르멜회에 입회하였다.

On May 7, 1919, at the age of 19, she entered the Carmelite Order. 

 

그녀는 자신의 영성 생활의 체험을 많은 사람과 나누기 위해 편지 쓰기 사도직을 시작했다. 그러나 수녀원에 들어온 지 얼마 되지 않아 그녀는 치명적인 발진티푸스에 걸려 활동의 제약을 받게 되었다.

She began a letter-writing apostolate to share her experience of spiritual life with many people. However, not long after entering the convent, she contracted fatal typhus, which limited her activities. 

 

그녀의 스무 번째 생일을 석 달 남겨 두고 1920년 4월 12일 선종하였다.

She died on April 12, 1920, three months before her twentieth birthday.
