아구아스 산타스의 성녀 마리나(Saint Marina of Aguas Santas)는 태어났으나 그녀의 어머니는 출산 중에 사망했다고 한다.

It is said that Saint Marina of Aguas Santas was born, but her mother died during childbirth. 

 

그녀의 아버지는 아기를 돌볼 유모를 찾았는데, 그 유모는 그리스도교로 개종하고 세례를 받은 사람이었다.

Her father found a nurse to care for the baby, who had converted to Christianity and been baptized. 

 

유모의 돌봄 속에 그리스도교 신앙을 갖고 성장한 성녀 마리나는 농업과 방목을 병행하는 전형적인 농촌 가정의 평범한 삶을 살았다.

Saint Marina, who grew up in the Christian faith under the care of her nanny, lived the ordinary life of a typical rural family doing both farming and grazing. 

 

어느 날 길가에서 가축을 돌보고 있을 때 지나가던 한 로마 관리가 그녀의 미모에 매력을 느껴 자신의 첩이나 노예로 만들려고 했다가 거절당했다. 그러자 그는 그녀를 그리스도인으로 고발하여 감옥에 가두었다.

One day, while she was tending livestock by the roadside, a Roman official passing by was attracted by her beauty and tried to make her his concubine or slave, but she was rejected. Then he accused her of being a Christian and imprisoned her. 

 

신앙을 포기하지 않으면 사형을 선고받는 상황에서 그녀는 여러 고문을 당하면서도 끝까지 신앙을 지켜 참수형을 선고받았다.

In a situation where she was sentenced to death if she did not renounce her faith, she maintained her faith until the end despite being tortured and was sentenced to be beheaded. 

 

마을 인근 들판에서 형이 집행되었는데, 그녀의 참수된 머리가 땅에 닿은 데서 샘물이 솟아났다고 한다. 그리고 그 장소는 치유의 능력이 있는 물이 솟아나는 기적의 순례지로 알려졌다.

The execution was carried out in a field near the village, where a spring of water is said to have flowed from where her decapitated head touched the ground. And that place was known as a miraculous pilgrimage site where water with healing powers springs out.
