리프니카의 성 시몬(Saint Szymon of Lipnica)은 폴란드에서 태어났다.

Saint Szymon of Lipnica was born in Poland.

 

그의 부모님은 그리스도교 신앙의 가치를 반영한 좋은 교육을 어떻게 그에게 해줄 수 있는지 알고 있었다. 그들은 넉넉지 않은 가정 형편에도 불구하고 그를 안전하게 돌보고 적절한 교양을 쌓을 수 있도록 교육했다.

His parents knew how to give him a good education that reflected the values ​​of the Christian faith. Despite their poor family circumstances, they took care of him safely and educated him to acquire appropriate culture. 

 

그는 부모의 뜻대로 신앙심 깊고 책임감 있는 본성을 갖고 성장했고, 타고난 성품의 풍요로움은 기도 생활과 ‘하느님의 어머니’이신 성모님께 대한 사랑으로 기울도록 했다.

According to his parents' wishes, he grew up with a religious and responsible nature, and the richness of his natural character led him to a life of prayer and love for the Virgin Mary, the 'Mother of God.' 

 

1457년 그는 작은 형제회의 이상에 매혹되어 복음서에서 언급된 가장 값진 진주를 얻기 위해 성공과 부유한 미래의 가능성을 뒤로하고 수도 생활을 선택하였다.

In 1457, he was so fascinated by the ideals of the Friars Minor that he chose monastic life, leaving behind the possibility of a successful and wealthy future in order to obtain the most precious pearl mentioned in the Gospel. 

 

그 후 그는 명백한 말씀으로 설교하고 충만한 열정과 신앙과 지혜를 가지고 끊임없이 자신을 헌신하여 확실히 자리를 잡았다.

After that, he firmly established himself by preaching with clear words and constantly devoting himself with full enthusiasm, faith, and wisdom. 

 

그는 ‘예수 성명 (Holy Name) ’ 신심을 전파하는 데 주력하여 수없이 많은 죄인들의 회개를 이끌었다.

He focused on spreading devotion to the ‘Holy Name of Jesus’ and led countless sinners to repentance. 

 

하느님의 백성에 대한 그의 사랑은 그의 생애 마지막 해에 크라쿠프에 유행성 전염병이 발발했을 때 비범한 방법으로 분명히 드러났다.

His love for God's people was evident in an extraordinary way when an epidemic broke out in Krakow in the last year of his life. 

 

그는 사랑을 실천하고 봉헌된 삶을 완성할 수 있는 좋은 시간을 잡았다고 생각했다. 그는 어느 곳이든 찾아가서 병자들을 위로하고 성사를 집전하며 죽어가는 이들에게 하느님의 위로를 전해주었다.

He thought he had found a good time to practice charity and perfect a consecrated life. He went everywhere to comfort the sick, administer the sacraments, and deliver God's comfort to the dying. 

 

그러다가 그 역시 전염병에 걸리고 말았다. 그는 놀라운 인내로써 질병의 고통을 견뎌냈다. 그러나 1482년 7월 18일, 전염병에 감염된 지 6일째 되던 날 그는 선종했다.

Then he too contracted an infectious disease. He endured the pain of his illness with remarkable patience. However, on July 18, 1482, six days after being infected with the plague, he died.
