브린디시의 성 라우렌시오(Saint Lawrence of Brindisi)는 1559년 7월 22일 상인 부모의 아들로 태어났다.

Saint Lawrence of Brindisi was born on July 22, 1559, the son of merchant parents. 

 

1575년 그는 카푸친회에 입회하였다. 파도바(Padova) 대학에서 교회 학문을 공부한 그는 언어에 대한 특별한 재능을 보여, 히브리어 · 그리스어 · 독일어 · 스페인어 · 프랑스어에 대한 상당한 실력을 지니게 되었다.

In 1575 he entered the Capuchin Order. He studied ecclesiastical studies at the University of Padua and showed a special talent for languages, acquiring considerable proficiency in Hebrew, Greek, German, Spanish, and French. 

 

1582년 사제품을 받은 그는 복음을 선포하는 설교가로 활동을 하였고 유대인의 개종과 개신교 신자들을 가톨릭으로 돌아오게 만들었다.

After being ordained a priest in 1582, he worked as a preacher proclaiming the gospel and converted Jews and brought Protestants back to Catholicism. 

 

그는 언제나 자신이 처한 상황에서 자신에게 주어진 일들을 해결하기 위해 최선의 노력을 다해 교회에 헌신했다. 또한 그는 저술가로서도 탁월한 능력을 발휘했다.

He always devoted himself to the church by doing his best to solve the problems given to him in his situation. He also demonstrated outstanding ability as a writer. 

 

1619년 7월 22일 그는 선종했다.

He died on July 22, 1619.
