성 대 야고보(Saint James the Great)는 갈릴래아 출신으로서 예수님의 부르심을 받았을 때 배에서 그물을 손질하고 있던 어부였다.

Saint James the Great was a fisherman from Galilee who was mending his nets when he was called by Jesus. 

 

그들은 예수님과 함께 열병으로 누워 있던 베드로의 장모를 예수님께서 낫게 해주신 현장에 있었다.

They were at the scene where Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law, who was lying in bed with a fever with Jesus. 

 

그들은 또한 어머니와 함께 예수님께 와서 “스승님의 나라에서 저의 이 두 아들이 하나는 스승님의 오른쪽에, 하나는 왼쪽에 앉을 것이라고 말씀해 주십시오.”하고 청했던 사람들이다.

They are also the ones who came to Jesus with their mother and asked, “Tell me, Master, that in your kingdom these two sons of mine will sit, one on your right and one on your left.” 

 

또 성격이 급해서 예수님으로부터 ‘천둥의 아들들’이란 뜻을 지닌 ‘보아네르게스(Boanerges)’라는 이름을 얻었다.

Also, because of their impatient nature, they were given the name ‘Boanerges’ by Jesus, which means ‘sons of thunder.’ 

 

사도행전에 따르면, 그는 헤로데 아그리파 1세 임금에 의해 예루살렘에서 참수형을 받고 사도로서는 첫 순교자가 되었다.

According to the Acts of the Apostles, he was beheaded in Jerusalem by King Herod Agrippa I and became the first apostle to be martyred. 

 

그 후 그의 무덤에서 기적이 많이 일어나고 예루살렘이 사라센 제국에 의해 점령되면서 순례가 어려워지자 산티아고 데 콤포스텔라는 로마와 함께 유럽인이 즐겨 찾는 3대 순례지로 떠올랐다.

Afterwards, many miracles occurred at his tomb, and as pilgrimage became difficult as Jerusalem was occupied by the Saracen Empire, Santiago de Compostela emerged as one of the top three pilgrimage destinations for Europeans, along with Rome.
