그녀는 1868년 9월 18일 멕시코의 작은 마을에서 태어났다.
She was born on September 18, 1868 in a small town in Mexico.
어려서부터 가정 안에서 훌륭한 신앙교육을 받은 그녀는 수도 생활에 대한 강한 성소를 느껴 1898년 12월 8일 고향에 있는 ‘마리아의 자녀들(Children of Maria)’이란 공동체에 들어갔다.
After receiving excellent religious education at home from a young age, she felt a strong vocation to monastic life and entered the community of ‘Children of Maria’ in her hometown on December 8, 1898.
그곳에서 그녀는 기도 생활과 종교 교육에 전념하며 성체성사 안에 현존하시는 예수 그리스도께 대한 신심을 키워갔다.
There she devoted herself to a life of prayer and religious education, developing devotion to Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist.
그녀는 1905년에 영적 지도자의 권고로 과달라하라(Guadalajara)의 성심 병원에서 병자들을 돌보는데 헌신하는 한 작은 여성 공동체의 일원이 되고자 마음먹었다.
In 1905, at the urging of her spiritual director, she decided to become part of a small community of women devoted to caring for the sick at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Guadalajara.
그녀는 겸손함과 단순함 그리고 다른 이들을 향한 친절함을 갖고 병자들을 돌보며 자신에게 맡겨진 직책을 성실히 수행하였다. 그녀는 또한 영원한 사제이신 예수 그리스도의 대리자로서 사제에 대한 특별한 존경심을 갖고 있었다.
She faithfully performed the duties entrusted to her, caring for the sick with humility, simplicity, and kindness toward others. She also had a special respect for priests as vicars of Jesus Christ, the eternal priest.
이렇게 수도 성소에 응답한 그녀는 공동체의 경건한 여성들과 함께 회헌을 마련하는 등 새로운 수도회의 기틀을 갖추는 일에 본격적으로 착수했다.
After responding to the religious vocation, she began in earnest to lay the foundation for a new religious order, including preparing constitutions with the pious women of the community.
그녀는 1921년 예수 성심의 딸 수녀회(The Constitution of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus)의 수녀원장으로 선출되었다.
She was elected abbess of the Constitution of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1921.
일생을 가난하고 병든 이들을 위해 헌신했던 그녀는 1959년 7월 30일 과달라하라에서 병자성사를 받은 후 평화롭게 선종했다.
She devoted her life to helping the poor and sick, and died peacefully after receiving the Anointing of the Sick in Guadalajara on July 30, 1959.
