베아트릭스(Beatrice)의 의미는 ‘여행자’라는 뜻이나‘축복받은, 복된’이라는 뜻으로 바뀐 것으로 보인다.

실바의 성녀 베아트릭스(Saint Beatrice of Silva)는 1424년 포르투갈에서 가톨릭 귀족 가문으로 태어나 어려서부터 궁정에서 생활했다.
Saint Beatrice of Silva was born in Portugal in 1424 into a Catholic noble family and lived at the court from an early age.
그녀는 이사벨(Isabel) 공주의 시녀로 있었는데 그녀의 미모가 공주에게 질투심을 느끼게 하여 어이없는 누명을 뒤집어쓰고 3일 동안 투옥되었는데 이때 음식조차 주지 않았다고 한다.
She was Princess Isabel's maid, but her beauty made the princess jealous, so she was falsely accused and imprisoned for three days, and it is said that she was not even given food.
좁은 감옥에서 그녀는 동정 마리아의 발현을 경험했다고 한다. 거의 죽다 살아난 후 그녀는 궁중 생활에 환멸을 느껴 수도원으로 들어갔다.
It is said that she experienced an apparition of the Virgin Mary in a narrow prison cell. After almost dying, she became disillusioned with court life and entered a monastery.
그녀는 공동체 생활에 대한 의무는 없었지만 모든 규칙을 충실히 지키며 기도 생활에 전념하며 30년 이상을 살았다.
Although she had no obligation to live in the community, she lived for more than 30 years, faithfully observing all the rules and devoting herself to a life of prayer.
그녀는 성모 발현을 체험한 이후 오랫동안 새로운 여자 수도회 설립을 꿈꾸어 오다가 ‘복되신 동정 마리아의 원죄 없으신 잉태 수녀회(Conceptionists)’를 설립하였다.
After experiencing the apparition of the Virgin Mary, she dreamed of establishing a new religious order for women for a long time and founded the ‘Conceptionists’
그녀를 질투했던 포르투갈의 이사벨 여왕의 딸은 그녀의 거룩함에 감동해 그녀에게 큰 애정을 가지게 되었다.
The daughter of Queen Isabella of Portugal, who was jealous of her, was moved by her holiness and developed great affection for her.
그녀가 설립한 수도회는 수녀들은 푸른 외투를 두르고 그 안에 흰 수도복을 입었다. 그녀는 선종했는데 정확한 날짜는 알려지지 않았다.
The nuns of the monastery she founded wore blue cloaks and white monastic robes underneath them. She died, but the exact date is unknown.
